5 Tips to Get Halloween Party Ready, From Costume Ideas to Decor Inspo
Oct 16, 2024
Throwing the perfect Halloween party doesn’t just happen overnight. You’ve got to channel your inner girl boss to get some severe party planning in place. But this doesn’t mean sending everyone personalized invitations by owl (unless you want to find some willing owls).
Instead, follow these top tips to throw the spookiest party of the year.
1. Pick A Theme
Whether you’ve been thinking about this since last year or you're throwing this party together in a week, no Halloween party is complete without a clear theme. You can go as broad or as specific as you like. For example, you might want to focus on one Halloween film, like Hocus Pocus, and decorate your home like a Salem witch trial with a bubbling cauldron.
Or perhaps you’d prefer a more modern take like a Stranger Things theme, with multi-colored Christmas lights and letters on the wall. Your theme will dictate your decor, so pick one and get spooky.
2. Dress Up or Stylish
If you need help with a theme, or even if you've already chosen one, you must decide whether this is a fancy dress party or more of a stylish party. If it's fancy dress, you can watch in wonder as everyone turns up in different outfits - you could even have a prize for the best one. Or perhaps you'd recreate something like the spooky school dance in ‘Wednesday’ and have everyone look as stylish as possible.
Whichever you go for, notify your guests. There's nothing worse than only one person turning up in fancy dress - ask Elle Woods; she knows.
3. Feed The Zombies
It's crucial to feed your guests with fun Halloween ideas. If your party is a classier affair, then you might serve foods that are black, red, or orange (typical Halloween colors) instead of more gimmicky ideas. However, if fancy dress is more your game or you want some class with a sprinkle of fun, you could serve toffee apples, sweets, or chips in the shape of witches' hats.
4. Don’t Forget The Music
Music is crucial at any party, but this is especially true at Halloween parties. As much-loved as ABBA is, it's probably best not to whip out “Dancing Queen.” So decide your vibe; if you're looking for a more laid-back party, you might want to stick with some creepy acoustic music, while others will wish for “I Put A Spell On You” in reply.
5. Spooky (or not so spooky) Games
Your Halloween Party might not be a spooky affair; however, some fun games will be welcome if you want to throw a party to remember. These might include:
- Murder Mystery
- Beer Pong (all the drinks are red)
- Classic Apple Bopping
- Halloween Quiz
- Halloween Piñata
