How to Remove an iPhone Camera Protector

How to Remove an iPhone Camera Protector
How to Remove an iPhone Camera Protector

If you’ve installed an iPhone camera protector but are keen to remove it, it’s essential to follow the below steps as closely as possible. Installing a camera protector might seem pretty simple, but removing one without breaking it or potentially damaging the lens is not so easy.

If you haven’t yet installed a camera protector, it’s worth considering whether a camera lens protector is the right move for you. So read on to discover how to remove these protectors and why a phone case could be the solution.

How Do You Take off the Camera Protector on your iPhone?

If you’ve decided it’s time for the camera protector to come off, follow the steps below carefully. Simply trying to rip it off could harm the protector, yourself, or your phone. So, set aside some time to follow the steps correctly.

1. Find A Clean Work Area

Before removing the protector, ensure you have a clean area to work in. Avoid pulling the protector in areas where dropping your phone could damage it. A steady work surface like a kitchen table should do the trick.

 2. Turn Off the Power

It’s best to power off your iPhone before you begin, as the process will involve some moving around, and you might accidentally press buttons or use the touchscreen during the removal process. To ensure you don’t accidentally call anyone, it’s easier to power down while you focus on the task at hand.

3. Clean With Microfibre Cloth

Depending on why you're removing it, you may want to keep your protector as clean as possible. Clean the protector with a micro-fiber cloth first to ensure a smooth and dust-free removal. You don’t need to damp the cloth; it just requires a gentle wipe over the lens protector’s surface.

4. Use Hairdryer to Losen Adhesive

Next, plug in a hair dryer and select a low to warm but not hot setting. Then, warm up the adhesive glue that binds the protector to the camera. One reason adhesive is used on protectors is for a strong bind, so don’t skip this step and try to remove the protector with your nails.

It will likely break or shatter (your nails included), so it’s best to hold the hair dryer close enough to warm the adhesive but not so close that the phone gets too hot.

5. Insert Prying Tool

A prying tool doesn’t mean a screwdriver or spanner - far from it. You need a flat, non-metal device to insert between the protector and the camera lens. You could consider a wooden toothpick or a bank card to help you. This will help to loosen the adhesive further without scratching or damaging the lens.

6. Lift The Protector

Now, it’s time to gently and carefully lift the protector away from the screen. If an adhesive area is still tightly bound to the lens, using the hairdryer again is best until the screen feels looser. Don’t just try to rip it off if you damage it or the lens. Removing the protector slowly and gently makes you less likely to leave unwanted residue.

7. Clean Away Any Residue

Despite your best efforts, some sticky residue might still be left on the lens. If you don’t clean this away immediately, dust or debris could easily get attached, which is neither hygienic nor aesthetic.

Phones can carry large amounts of bacteria without sticky residues from a lens protector being removed, so clean away this residue with a microfiber cloth and a small proportion of lens cleaning solution.

Is It a Good Idea to Put a Camera Protector on Your iPhone?

With the rise of social media comes the need for good-quality cameras that can be carried around in users' pockets. Whether simply an avid photographer or a TikTok influencer, people spend much time on their phones. As a result, you’ll want to protect your iPhone as best as possible. But is a camera protector worth it

If a great-quality camera is your top priority, you may already have an iPhone camera lens protector. However, a protector may not work in your favor if you want great-quality images. Sometimes, protectors can deteriorate the image quality if not installed correctly or if cheaper materials are used. Likewise, camera protectors aren’t the easiest to remove if you change your mind.

While it’s understandable to want to protect your camera, a good-quality case can provide the same function without anything covering the lens. After all, some scratches will be too close to the focal plane of the camera lens to make a difference.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, having or not having a camera lens is a personal choice. However, a cute and chic case can offer excellent protection without risking covering the lens.
