Who Is HeadCount?

Has there ever been a more important time to vote? No, we don’t think so, either. However, no election goes by without people registering to vote. Sometimes, they’re so busy they forget or don’t think their voice is important. HeadCount, founded in 2004, is a nonpartisan charity that aims to get people voting.

HeadCount attends over 1000 live events yearly, such as concerts and festivals. By enlisting the help of cultural leaders (and icons), HeadCount promotes the need to vote nationally. Since its founding year, HeadCount has gone on to sign up over 1 million votes by enlisting the aid of touring musicians.

The likes of Ariana Grande and Beyoncé have come to HeadCounts’s aid, to name a few. Then there are events such as RuPaul's DragCon and Lollapalooza that have also got people involved in voting.

Ultimately, HeadCount has three core aims.

  1. Civic Engagement - empowering volunteering, diversity, and understanding the shared experience of the democratic process
  2. Election Participation - civic engagement is critical in elections and is a core value of a functioning and fair society
  3. Democracy Protection - Elections must be fair, inclusive, and trustworthy

What’s HeadCount All About?

Over the years, HeadCount has facilitated and been involved in loads of great projects, including:

  • The Future Is Voting campaign
  • Donuts for Democracy (this one sounds yummy!)
  • March For Our Lives
  • HeadCount originals
  • #thankunextgen

Now, they have three main projects.

1. Good To Vote

Good To Vote is all about teaming up with influencers, artists, and brands to hold fun once-in-a-lifetime prizes for fans in exchange for them registering to vote. It prevents election fatigue by showing how fun democracy can be.

2. Save The Vote!

Did you know that every state has its own voting laws? It means that elections can be a bit confusing; while some states pass laws to make voting easier, others have changed election laws to make voting more difficult.

Democracy can’t function if it isn’t fair, trustworthy, and accessible for all, and that’s where Save The Vote! comes in. HeadCounts empowers people to use their voice and contact their lawmakers.

3. Vote With Pride

The LGBTQ+ community is an integral part of any society, but sometimes, those in this community face barriers because of prejudice or simply a lack of understanding from local communities and governments.

HeadCount aims to help voters and potential voters get registered and offer a range of support for those who might feel uncomfortable voting in person or have trouble with their ID. Whatever the barrier, HeadCount acknowledges the LGBTQ+ community’s struggles and wants to help.

How Can You Help?

Donate

While volunteering is often considered a more personal solution, not everyone has such spare time. Donating is a great way to fund resources if you have spare finances, helping HeadCount stay sustainable and aiding their work.

Volunteer

HeadCount heavily relies on volunteers every year. Without them, HeadCount couldn’t exist. If you want to be a volunteer, check out the hundreds of events you could help with.
